I got some more work done on the scarf I'm making. I under-estimated how much I had left to do on it. For me, a scarf has to be long enough to wrap around the neck with each end ending up in back around shoulder height. That keeps it in place without it feeling like I have big lumps in coat.

I think spring is finally upon us, so I may not even get to wear it this year. It's been quite nice all week and yesterday I only had on a light jacket and sweatshirt instead of my usual layers and layers of clothes and coats.

I remember now

Buster Poindexter. I think that's who was in the movie.

I forgot to take the books with me to town. Damn! I'm the worst library book borrower. I keep them for months and I currently have one in my house that I cannot find. Bad me.

I found a huge stash of yarn that I forgot I had. My MIL gave it to me last year when I was crocheting a bunch of scarves for Christmas and expressed an interest in knitting. Neither her or her mom could remember how to knit, but she bought me an "I learned to knit" booklet and gave me this huge box of yarn that she got at a garage sale. There's all kinds of fancy type yarns, like glittery ones, and this cool cotton with a very slight fringy added. There's, I think 5 different colors of that. And this weird royal blue with black latex fringies. DH thought that that would make an excellent tube top. I think it was the latex.

I don't know if I can do anything with this stuff. There's not enough to a make a full anything with it. Maybe enough for a hat or scarf, but it doesn't seem to be that type of yarn. Any suggestions?

Weekend

It's Saturday morning. We have to go get 1000 lbs of grain today. We should also go grocery shopping and I need to return some books to the library.

I shouldn't drink in the afternoon. I started falling asleep on the couch around 8 pm. DH woke me up to eat some dinner and I was back alseep by 9. Ivan (the cat) climbed on my lap and Dh accused him of sucking the life out of me. Does anyone remember the horror movie that was like 4 short stories and one wasa about this horrid german guy that hated cats because they suck the life out of you? I think the guy from the NY Dolls was in it. I foget his name. BIL Jim came over with his X-Box and he and DH played games.

I love my in-laws. They're more family to than mine. We're going over there for Easter dinner. My MIL called friday morning to invite us. My own mother left a message for me Friday afternoon inviting us to her house. How is it that MIL always manages to invite us first? I don't know, but I'd rather go there.

Good Friday

We're not a religious bunch at work. We're not even a bunch; there's only seven of us. But today it was suggested that we go to one of the three churches across the street to worship. The three churches are bars and one of the owners bought lunch and beer. Yay! Good thing we had a late lunch. I wasn't much in the coding mode after 2 pints of Bells Best Brown. On the other hand it's good that I had a couple of hours before I had to make the 50 mile drive home. I'm such a light weight these days!

Tattoos are cool

I love oatmeal's tattoo. You can see it here.

I want a tattoo, but I can't ever decide what to get that would be meaningful for the rest of my life.

Knitting is fun

I went to knitting class last night. It's not really a class, so much as a get together. It's at my LYS and costs $2. The owner is there to answer any questions. Pam, the owner was frogging another lady's sweater because the pattern wasn't right and helping her figure out how to fix the pattern. Now that's worth any amount of cash for the class.

I started turning the heel of the slippers I'm making. It doesn't seem too difficult, but I was glad I waited until class to do it becuase I'm sure I would have done the SSK wrong, i.e. I would have slipped 2 stitches and knit the next one, not slip 2 and then knit back into them.

I also signed up for a class my LYS is putting on. An author is coming and teaching 3 classes: Small Seam Stitching, Purses, 2 Hand 2 Color. I'm taking the seam class and I have homework! I have to knit like 10 swatches. I'm debating whether or not to take the purse class. What do you think?

Since people were already linked to my home page and it seemed like there was no way for me to easily change my site in the Knitting Blogger's web ring, I moved my blog. I don't know if I mentioned the software I'm using, Moveable Type, but it is just so cool! After I got everything set up, it was just few clicks and the site was moved. That is just so cool. All the problems I had setting it up were completely due to my server configuration and lack of unix skill. Moveable Type ROCKS.

Here's all my old posts. From here on out I can do it automagically!

Why am I making so much soap, you may wonder? I'm doing my first craft show! April 13th & 14th at the Howe Areana in Traverse City, MI. If you're in the area, stop by and see me at the "Cathouse Soapworks" booth.

Man I was busy Tuesday! I'm on spring break and Tuesday is my day off. I made 2 kinds of soap, Bay Rum Lime and Pearberry. I also packaged 27 body butters (Made the lotion last week, but the jars I intended to use were cracked. The replacement jars arrived (yay! Camden-Grey is the best!) in great condition. I sliced, diced and trimmed finished soaps. I leaped tall buildings in a single bound. Then I was sick on Wednesday.

Knitting class tonight, so I can get help on doing the heal of the slippers I'm knitting. They're for DH. Does this mean he'll walk away when they're done? I hope not. Our 10TH WEDDING ANIVERSERY is on April 4th. We haven't decided what to do yet to celebrate.

I'm still having trouble getting a blog script to run, but I made a major break thru. It at least runs now, but the script is giving me errors. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll have something running.

Aaawwww. Blush. I just saw that Dangerous Chunky mentioned me. Thanks so much! It was because of your blog that I decided to create my own. Glitter Kitty and ChicKnits also inspired me. Also, big thanks to Ivette for coming up with the web ring and linking to me!

I managed to screw up on Sunday when I was plugging in the water tank heater for the cows. We only have 2 plugs at the moment and 3 things to plug in. I made sure the fence was plugged in after the cows took their walk and thought I unplugged the light and plugged in the heater. Guess not. By Monday morning there was an unbreakable layer of ice. Luckily it mostly melted by the afternoon, enough so that DH could bust it up. If if didn't melt, I couldn't imagine what we would do with a 100 gallon block of ice.

Blah. It's early Monday morning. I have nothing much to say. Have to go to work. Need to start getting ready.

I did get a lot done on my scarf yesterday. I only need about 6 more inches and it's complete.

3/24/2002 -
I've spent the last 4 hours trying to get a blog script working on my server. bleh! It's still not working. I took a break to go feed the animals (cows, pigs, chickens) and the cows were missing. Luckily I could follow their tracks in the snow and found them out by the road. DH keeps unplugging the electric fence. Grrr! Argh! I was really pissed and DH is gone for the day. I imagined all the mean nasty thing I would say when I called him. I decided not to call.

I worked on my scarf for a couple of hours yesterday. It's been so cold this last week here in Michigan that I figured I would still be able to wear it this year. I'm already thinking about what my next project should be. I think a fitted shell would be nice.

3/23/2002 -
I think the soap I made Thursday is a little softer than my normal soap. I figured it would be harder because of the cocoa butter. Oh well, it will harden up in a couple of days.

DH is going to douche the computer today. We've had it for over two years without ever starting over from scratch. It needs it though. Weirdness has been going on and it will get rid of all the crap we've installed over the years. It should run faster too, which is good, because I don't really want to spend the cash on a new computer. Not when I could buy lots of wool and nifty new knitting needles (ha)!

I didn't go to knitting class last night. We haven't been to the grocery store in 3 weeks. We needed food and the kitties needed treats. Sasha just goes nuts over treats. She attacks the bag. This morning I left the cupboard open where they are kept (a rather high cupboard) and she was trying to get into it! There was not much room for a cat and everything else that's in there so something had to go. Unfortunately, it was my tupperware.

It's been another busy week. I haven't done any knitting since last Saturday. My right arm is kinda numb and tingly. It started with the crazy ridiculous time I spent knitting and was completely aggravated by the inordinate amount of time I spent typing on Sunday. I't was mid-term week at school and one class allows the use of notes, so I think I spent 6 hours typing notes because I can't read my handwriting and I can type faster than I write. Since I'm a programmer by trade, I haven't really been able to rest my arm much this week. I shouldn't even be typing this. This has happened before and I just need to take it easy and I'll be fine. It probably didn't help that I had Kuntaw class last night and we did wrist locks.

I made soap today. I deviated from my standard recipe to include some new oils I bought, cocoa butter and jojoba. Scented it with vanilla with a touch of pachouli and lavender. Yum.

I'm looking for a good blog script so updates will be a bit easier. Anyone know of a good one? Not the kind hosted by another company, but one I can install on my server. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I have a guestbook now. You can sign it here.

Well, I thought I would try and use PHP instead of plain ol' SSI. DAMN DH has that all restricted too. And he's still asleep. I think I'll go wake hime up now. 3/16/2002 -
Ok, I know there are no links or pics anymore. DH needs to set up server side includes because I don't have permission to do so :(

I think I'm knitting too much.  My right arm is kind of sore.  I've had more free time than usual this week and spent it all knitting.  Could be all the programming I'm doing too.  I hate building forms for software.  That is not the fun part for me.

I'm have a small confession to make. <deep breath>I'm 31 years old and I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer.<exhale>  Hate Angel though.  We are friends with a young polish man and he looks a lot like David Boreanz(sp?) so we call him Angel the big dumb Pollock (David, not our friend).  Not that our friend is dumb.  He's quite intelligent and witty.  But he is big.

I got most of the cuff done on one slipper last night.  I've abandoned my scarf for the time being.  Pretty soon it will be too warm to wear...although it could still be snowing in May here in Michigan.  Is it just me or has this been a very weird winter? Freezing, then warm.  Raining then snow.

DH couldn't bring home the digital camera, so it'll be awhile before I can take pictures of my projects.  Maybe we need to buy our own.  Yes, I think we do!

I went on a book/music/DVD buying spree yesterday.  I can't wait for all my goodies to come!  I ordered two knitting books: The Knitting Goddess and Knitting in Plain English.  I also ordered the first season of OZ & Buffy on DVD, Significant Other by Limp Bizkit (why do I find angry young man music so entertaining? LB just cracks me up), and some books for DH.

I haven't been in the soapy mood since I set my mind on knitting (OK, it's only been two weeks since I last made soap).  I do that a lot.  Discover a new hobby and it becomes the focal point of my life.  For instance, I used to brew beer at least twice a month.  Now it's more like twice a year.  I can't give up on the soaping though, as I intend to start selling soaps & toiletries at craft shows soon.  But right now I have so much fucking soap that I don't know where to put it. I think I have 9 scents of soap ready for a show.  Now I just need to get registered for one.  I also want to take lip balms, glosses, lotion bars and salt scrubs. Ack! I need to come up with a better storage solution.

This is just a little site to brag/whine about the projects I'm working on. I think most people think I'm kind of dorky because I do all this craft stuff, but I just need to do craft stuff...for as long as I can remember.

I recently learned to knit, so I'm working on my first project, an easy ribbed scarf (pics will come soon) and last night I went to my first knitting class and started a pair of slippers for DH that are to be felted when finished. I had fun at the class, although there was only three people there (myself, the instructor, and another woman). I taught myself continental style knitting because I crochet and couldn't get used to holding the yarn in my right hand. The instructor told me I was twisting my knit stitch and showed me another way to do the knit stitch that was actually easier.

I really got the crafty bug hard again after a few years of not doing much in the way of making stuff. Recently I found this great flannel with a chinese takeout pattern on clearance an Jo-Ann fabrics. I made myself and DH each a pair of pyjama bottoms. I tend to stick with simple stuff when sewing.

Well, that's it for today. I'll work on getting pics of my stuff and making the links on the left work (ha!)

Yay! My blog script is working

Hallelujah! This took about forverer. I installed Movable Type on DH's server and through a series of Herculean effort, I've finally got it working.

Now, I just have to figure out how to change my site information in the Knitting Bloggers webring.
